Hi Jean Pierre
I got it wrong. its not the thermistor that's blown, its the resistor at PCT2.
Problem is, I can't find any BOM for the original version of the MP573 on your site.
Can you send me the documentation for this preamp and also confirm what resistor this is.
It looks like some kind of fuse resistor and i'm not sure I even know how I did this.
Must have hot-plugged it a couple of years back.

MP512 Microphone preamplifier / Can I run a 1731 op amp in a MP5.12

Hi Jean Pierre

Dude, can I run a GAR1731 opamp in this 512? I only have a old, knackered SK99 opamp left over and don't know what is wrong with it.
I have a spare 1731 opamp though.

Check that all the connections of the DI connector (red lines in the picture) are OK.
If all OK then try changing the 2N7000. This device is sensitive to static electricity and should be handled with your body grounded (removing your shoes is generally enough).
man I have blown a few of these doing the DI boards. Its a pain in the ass.
I have a DI board right now that is not working because othe 2n7000.
JP, just exactly how sensitive are these?!!!

Boys... i'm trying to test an old Soundskulptor MP573 without a DI board and I remember this can be done by strapping a bent paper clip across two contacts on the CN3 6-pin socket that recieves the header from the DI board. Something like this, but I can't remember if it goes across the first two pins (at the card edge end as in the picture) or the two pins at the other end next to the caps. Can someone confirm? Is this correct?

Hi JP. Hope you're well.
I have a customer who says his first Gen 573 starts making scratchy noises once it gets up to temperature.
Works for about 1 30 seconds then fails then doesn't deliver any audio. Just noise.
Can you point me to some basic troubleshooting? He was running it in a Midas L6.
But he has checked the other 573 in the lunchbox in the same slot and its working so he is very sure it is a problem with the preamp.
Best, Matt
