CP4500 Stereo Bus Compressor / Re: Issues with Midas L10

Changed LED and all working!
Good!
Are you sure there is no overvoltage happening in the Midas, maybe temporarily at power up?

now when the "in" push button is in the out position, it cuts audio altogether.
This is the bypass mode.
On both channels?
Is this also a REV1.3 PCB?
Yes when in bypass, all audio on both channels cuts out. I will get PCB Rev number but it is the newer SMD version

Changed LED and all working!

I have an issue with another CP4500 actually that I built for a friend. It has been working for over 2 years but now when the "in" push button is in the out position, it cuts audio altogether. Working fine when in.
I have yet to get it from him to repair but what should I look out for please?

Hi
I am finally able to look at this to see whats wrong. I am getting correct voltages on pcb V- and V+ test points. When I check LED D3 i just get a reading of 370mv. I think LED gone but would that stop the whole unit from working?

Weirdly I have an HRK module and just plugged in to my Midas L10 and now all 11 LEDs on its meter have gone but unit is working. Is Midas killing my LEDs!?

Thanks JPK, will try these next week when back with testing equipment. I removed the 4 IC's you mention and plugged in rack but still same issue. Revision of PCB is 1.3

CP4500 Stereo Bus Compressor / Issues with Midas L10
« on: November 29, 2022, 08:54:42 PM »
Hi, I have had the CP4500 working fine on my studio TAC 500 series rack but I recently bought it home, to use with my home setup Midas L10 rack and within a week the CP4500 has stopped working. The Meter light comes on but the In button no longer does anything (LED doesnt light up) and no compression happens. Before taking it apart to test I am wondering if anyone else has experienced issues with Midas rack? Maybe not enough power on the rails? My other 500 units work fine on it at the moment. I will obviously try it back in my studio rack but its going to be a while before i'm back there. Any help much appreciated!

I was looking for the part number please for the white plastic actuator button you use for the comp in and side chains please? I need a replacement and if you had a mouser or preferably RS Components part number I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

Ah great, thanks for the link and yeah I missed that it was on box as I had the lid open the whole time ;D
Went looking for newer docs on your site but couldn’t see, maybe a permanent link for future builders would be useful

CP4500 Stereo Bus Compressor / Jumpers and Dist trim pot?
« on: May 25, 2021, 11:53:13 PM »
Hi
Just completed my build and calibrated and very happy, nice work Jean-Pierre! My build differed slightly to the instructions as mine were an SMT version of the THAT chips and some assembly instructions didn’t correspond. There is no mention I could find of what the Jumpers JMP1 and 2 do and what I should do with them, also the Dist trim pots. Please can you explain what these are for and how I need to set them?
Cheers
Tom

CP4500 Stereo Bus Compressor / CP4500 - Not a true Mix knob?
« on: May 22, 2021, 07:03:59 PM »
Hi
I just bought the CP4500 to use on drum bus and one of the key features for me was the mix knob for parallel processing. On the ‘500 Love’ FB group someone was saying how it is not a true mix knob. To quote:

“…It has a mix knob, but it doesn't work as a dry/wet control. Rather as a "ratio scaler", from full nominal ratio to none. Which is absolutely NOT the equivalent of mixing dry and wet…

Just analyse the schematic, you'll see that mix knob is simply a voltage divider on the CV (Control Voltage) to the main VCA, meaning you go from full CV effect to no CV effect.
This translates to lowering ratio and makeup, definitely not mixing dry and wet.
Imagine doing drums parallel compression, which is mixing dry to heavily compressed. This circuit just doesn't do that”

Please can you comment on whether this is true?
Cheers!
Tom

EQP501 Passive Equalizer / Re: When will this be back in stock?

If you had bought the kit before Brexit, you would have paid 60 Euros of French VAT anyway (unless you are a company).
So the Brexit cost is the £11 DHL fee for the customs clearing.

Ah ok, haha I'm making this into a bigger deal than it is then. I read that the new EU deal would not charge VAT on imports for goods worth less than £390 which is one of the reasons I bought and thats why it felt like a sting. So much conflicting info out there

YEah £62 VAT and £11 'payment deferment risk' whatever that is. Bought the kit at 299 euros, wish I had bought before Brexit a couple of weeks ago. Anyway, still looking forward to the kit!

Interested in buying and just wondering if there was a time frame when this kit is back in stock please?
Cheers
