CP4500 Stereo Bus Compressor / Issues with Midas L10
« on: November 29, 2022, 08:54:42 PM »
Hi, I have had the CP4500 working fine on my studio TAC 500 series rack but I recently bought it home, to use with my home setup Midas L10 rack and within a week the CP4500 has stopped working. The Meter light comes on but the In button no longer does anything (LED doesnt light up) and no compression happens. Before taking it apart to test I am wondering if anyone else has experienced issues with Midas rack? Maybe not enough power on the rails? My other 500 units work fine on it at the moment. I will obviously try it back in my studio rack but its going to be a while before i'm back there. Any help much appreciated!

CP4500 Stereo Bus Compressor / Jumpers and Dist trim pot?
« on: May 25, 2021, 11:53:13 PM »
Hi
Just completed my build and calibrated and very happy, nice work Jean-Pierre! My build differed slightly to the instructions as mine were an SMT version of the THAT chips and some assembly instructions didn’t correspond. There is no mention I could find of what the Jumpers JMP1 and 2 do and what I should do with them, also the Dist trim pots. Please can you explain what these are for and how I need to set them?
Cheers

CP4500 Stereo Bus Compressor / CP4500 - Not a true Mix knob?
« on: May 22, 2021, 07:03:59 PM »
Hi
I just bought the CP4500 to use on drum bus and one of the key features for me was the mix knob for parallel processing. On the ‘500 Love’ FB group someone was saying how it is not a true mix knob. To quote:

“…It has a mix knob, but it doesn't work as a dry/wet control. Rather as a "ratio scaler", from full nominal ratio to none. Which is absolutely NOT the equivalent of mixing dry and wet…

Just analyse the schematic, you'll see that mix knob is simply a voltage divider on the CV (Control Voltage) to the main VCA, meaning you go from full CV effect to no CV effect.
This translates to lowering ratio and makeup, definitely not mixing dry and wet.
Imagine doing drums parallel compression, which is mixing dry to heavily compressed. This circuit just doesn't do that”

Please can you comment on whether this is true?
Cheers!
