MP566 Tube microphone preamplifier / Re: signal check fail

Check the output impedance and max level of your sound card (from the specs sheet).

Unfortunately I couldn’t seem to find any info on the output impedance of the interface in my test setup, but it’s a MOTU 4Pre, and I doubt it comes with any unusual specs.

Make sure the 48V is off, check the cable.

Check with the gain switch set to LOW.

Yes, 48V is off and gain switch is set to LOW.

Any other ideas?

Thanks,
Claudio

Not trying to hijack this thread, but I have a very similar issue. When I measure the 1kHz sine source directly at the XLR plug unconnected, I get 1VAC, but plugging in the XLR and measuring at the extender with the MP566 connected, voltage falls down to 0.086VAC. That’s a drastic change. In my DAW I can’t even push the output any louder than around 0.7VAC.

My LED also flashes when I switch on power, although the test guide says it shouldn’t.

Any clues what the problem(s) might be?

Thanks!

Nevermind. Seems like there was a bad solder joint at the power-up PCB. Now it’s working as intended.

MP566 Tube microphone preamplifier / Low voltage check failed
« on: January 15, 2022, 11:07:44 PM »
Hello everyone,

When going through the MP566 test guide, I’m stuck at point 4 (Low voltage check). According to the documents I’m supposed to get a voltage between -3.8V and -5V between the TP8 and 0V test pins, but what I really get is -15V. What could I have done wrong?

Thanks,
Claudio

CP4500 Stereo Bus Compressor / Re: dbx2150 instead of THAT2180

To answer my own question (for anyone wondering the same), JPK replied to me that the dbx2150 aren’t really compatible with the THAT2180. It would require quite a lot of modification to use the dbx VCAs in the CP4500.

MP566 Tube microphone preamplifier / Olive face plate for MP566
« on: January 18, 2021, 01:59:47 PM »
Hello,

What happened to the MP566 face plate? Why was the colour changed from olive to blueish? I pretty much prefer the olive one, and I heard the same from other users as well. Will the olive panels be available again in the future?

Thanks,
Claudio

:-\ Ugh be warned UK buyers. I just bought this kit and was charged £73 in customs fees by DHL! Gutted and f#%k Brexit  >:(  :o
73 Pounds? Are these really customs fees or maybe import sales tax and DHL’s processing fees? What was your net amount? And did you order the kit or the assembled unit? Just curious...

Thanks, that’s what I already did. But does it also notify me when you edit your first post? Or just on new replies?

Thanks, Jean-Pierre. So is there a way we can easily be notified when products are back in stock? Or do we have to check the website every day?

Best regards,
Claudio

CP4500 Stereo Bus Compressor / dbx2150 instead of THAT2180
« on: January 13, 2021, 07:14:08 PM »
Hello Jean-Pierre and all,

Can we replace the THAT2180’s in the CP4500 with original dbx2150 VCAs? Can they simply be swapped? Or do we need any modifications in the circuit first?

Thanks,
Claudio
