Hi, The red input gain on my newly assembled unit only turns around to 40? There are obviously two more steps to 50 and 60 that are not in use.

I have ALSO the notice the output seems quite low compared to my other preamps? I have the output set to max, input to 40 and switched to 300 ohms and its no where near as loud as my Camden 500.

Its not the end of the word but could there be a fault?

What do you mean by "steps to 50 and 60 that are not in use" ?
Are they not working?

Hi, I cannot turn the knob around any further than 40. I didn't want to force it in case I break it. Fully left it is at 10 but I cant turn it past 40 to the right. (clockwise)

The maximum number of positions on the switch is set by a special washer at the base of the bushing. Maybe yours in not in the right position?
