EQ250

Bootstrap Image Preview

The EQ250 is a stereo parametric equalizer inspired by the revered Sontec MEP-250A.

It provides five fully parametric bands, offering fine-tuned control over a wide range of frequencies.

Each band features adjustable frequency, bandwidth (Q) and gain, enabling detailed sculpting of the audio signal.

The EQ250 is recommended for its smooth curves and lack of phase distortion, which contribute to its natural and musical sound quality.

While the EQ250 is loved for its transparency, it also imparts a subtle warmth and cohesiveness to the sound.

It can be used in mastering studios, recording studios, and high-end live sound setups.

Highlights

    • 5 fully parametric bands,
    • Exceptionally smooth, allowing for significant boosts without harshness,
    • Minimal phase distortion and unparalleled clarity,
    • ±14dB for accurate boosts and cuts,
    • Bandwidth Control (Q) from extremely narrow to broad,
    • Large frequency range: 13 Hz – 32 kHz,
    • Ideal for addressing everything from sub-bass to air frequencies,
    • Ergonomic controls for fast and efficient workflow,
    • Polypropylene and COG capacitors on filters,
    • Available assembled or as a full kit (everything included).

Controls

1: High frequency band: from 590 Hz to 32 kHz.

2: High-Mid frequency band: from 270 Hz to 15 kHz.

3: Mid frequency band: from 85 Hz to 4.8 kHz.

4: Low-Mid frequency band: from 27 Hz to 1.5 kHz.

5: Low frequency band: from 13 Hz to 750 Hz.

6: Frequency: Potentiometer that sets center frequency for cut or boost.

7: Bandwidth: Potentiometer that sets the width of the band, from narrow to broad.

8: Cut/Boost: Potentiometer that sets the amount of cut or boost at the selected frequency. The zero position is confirmed by a click.

9: Low frequency shelf: When depressed, the low band turns into a shelf.

10: On/Off EQ bypass button (hardware by relay).

11: High frequency shelf: When depressed, the High band turns into a shelf.

What's in the kit?

Absolutely everything!

  • Passive components (resistors, capacitors),
  • Active components (diodes, IC's),
  • Front panel elements (switches, potentiometers, knobs),
  • Connectors, relay,
  • PCB's,
  • Front panel,
  • All hardware.

You bring the solder (use good quality solder, 1mm diameter max) and the Lunchbox.

Difficulty level

The EQ250 kit is a medium difficulty level. Nothing very difficult but a rather large number of components.

The setup is simple but requires using a good quality DC millivoltmeter.
